POSTOST: Україна / Ukraine

Russia has been waging a war of aggression in Ukraine since February. Millions of people are on the run. There is no end in sight. In order to present positions of Ukrainian artists, to examine nation-building processes as well as the legacy of post-Soviet socialization, the Stiftung Neue Kunst Berlin-Brandenburg (SNKBB) in cooperation with Better Life GmbH has created the exhibition "POSTOST: Україна / Ukraine". All proceeds will be donated directly to the Ukrainian Cultural Community (UCC) in Berlin (minus expenses incurred).

The exhibition brings together primarily positions of Ukrainian artists. The result is a prismatic view of a present at war, everyday life under threat and stories about identification, cohesion and belonging. Part of the exhibition are: Volo Bevza, Daria Kozlova & Arwin Ahm, Maria Kebu, Sasha Kurmaz, Boris Mikhailov, Monday Kitchen, Victoria Pidust, Marija Prymachenko, Liza Riabinina, Anatolii Sakhivko and Nikita Teryoshin.

New works by Volo Bevza and Victoria Pidust in collaboration with 4Spaces | ZigZagZurich, created especially for the exhibition, will be shown. In addition, Marija Prymachenko's paintings reconstructed as woolen blankets will be presented for the first time as part of the exhibition. The original paintings were destroyed during an attack on the museum in Ivankiv - an irretrievable loss of Ukrainian art history. Several works from different creative decades of Boris Mikhailov create a perspective that is ahead of its time and always contemporary, documenting in their socio-critical momentum the explosive nature of the lack of historical reappraisal.

The vernissage was opened by the Mayor of Neukölln Martin Hikel, as patron, in addition to some of the exhibitors. It was extended by a performance by choreographer and dancer Liza Riabinina from Kyiv vocal artist Maria Kebu. In addition to the normal exhibition hours, there will be a supporting program of music, panel discussions and artist talks every second Saturday of the month. Concept and curation are by Julia and Marcus Boxler. The space is provided free of charge by VALUES Real Estate.

The exhibition runs until September 18, 2022. Get your TICKET here.
